One of the guys at camp won't be using his for the first time since he started deer hunting. It's going afield with his step-son this year. It'll be nice to see a new hunter get started.

Congrats on the buck and really nice rifle. Is that a K-3 Weaver on it? I traded off my 700 Classic a couple of years ago and this thread brings a little remorse for doing so. This year I will be using my Haenel M1909 in 6.5x52 (25 Remington) for my quarter inch bore.

the 250 Savage will kill deer? Yup--------------------------- and it's been doing that very well for 103 years. No big surprise here. Congratulations, and I hope you "prove" that many more times in your future.

Resurrected thread for a Classic caliber. Didn't realize it was an old thread as I was reading through it until I saw Bricktop. His avatar always cracked me up...lol

Nah, ain't big enough for deer. Couple years ago with my old Ruger Tang Safety 250 Sav. Buck measured 161+ and the biggest bodied deer I've taken. 100 Hornady Interlock sp, 38-Big Game As for it being dark, the buck was taken about 15 minutes before quitting time. By the time I got back to the house and rousted out my wife and daughter for help with pictures it had gotten dark. I've taken several does and smaller bucks with a M99R 250 Sav using the 87 Speer Hot Core. No problems at all with it.

Yes, I worked up a load that will get me by for this season and after the season I will continue development. I tried everything from 87-117 gr. and found the 110 FTX Hornady @ 2200 fps to be the best thus far.

I just killed this buck last week with my tang safety 250 ruger RSI with a 90gr. sierra BTHP gameking and a full charge of 3031 nice! glad to see my old thread still alive. these days i have three (3) 250 salvages. lately ive been running the 87 g hot-cor with h4895. still the easiest cartridge i have reloaded for. the salvage in the original pic shoots into about an inch at 100. the ruger hawkeye RSI does an inch and a half. the 700 classic does sub-1” ... its a real tackdriver. i regret not getting one of the salvage american classics when they were chambered in the 250, but hey ... how many does a man need?

I got one of the Model 16 250 Savages. It is one of the most accurate guns I have in my safe. Easy to shoot and kills deer easily. I have shot 3 deer with the rifle and hand loaded Barnes 80gr TTSX's, including one large bodied buck that was easily pushing 200lbs + and scored in the mid 130's. All there of these deer hit the ground at the shot, the large buck was shot in the shoulder but the 2 does were shot heart/lung area. I was very impressed with how the little cartridge performs!

Either getting an encore barrel made or finding a donor soon. Been kicking this idea around too long.

This is my .250 Savage. It's a Ruger MKII RSI taken out of the factory Mannlicher stock and put in a Ruger synthetic stock sourced here at the fire. It's proving pretty accurate with H-414 and 100 grain Speer JSP's. I haven't hunted with it yet but the praises here for the .250 are encouraging.
Leave the gun, take the canolis.

I have 12 .250s so one might say I can’t get enough of this great little cartridge - it never let me down (on dozens and dozens of deer and deer sized game.....I let it down once on a cow elk) and have brought several new hunters into the sport with it. Some great looking rifles all of you have shared!

I like that. Will be taking my Ruger for a walk this coming Saturday.
