Reducing recoil for a 13-14 year old is tough, another major issue is length of pull.

Remington makes a managed recoil loads, you may investigate them for your use.

BW, yep, I was thinking about keeping velocity between 2800-2900, the boy's 5'9" so the 13 1/2" LOP of the old fwt. looks good on him. Mainly for mn. whitetails, but he may make it on a elk hunt next year.
Thanks again!

Randy, My 24" barrell Win 70 Classic shoots 130 grain Sierra's at about 2950 fps with 59.0 grains of H4831sc. This load has worked very well on MN whitetails and MT antelope and Mule Deer and has accounted for eight game animals with 8 shots at ranges of between 15 yards and 275 yards. I use Fed 210 M primers and Win cases and seat to 3.34" to get three shot 0.50 inch groups at 100 yards and just over 1" groups at 200 yards. With your 22" barrell you should get 2850 to 2900 fps with that load. I use that same load for 130 grain Partitions and have shot the Barnes bullets with it although in my gun the Barnes were not as accurrate as the Partitions and the Sierra GK bullets.
