I have not done a lot of testing, but this is a good load, it shoots right about 1 MOA in this rifle. As I recall it shot about 1/12 - 2 MOA in my BLR. This 700 wears a no name shown 358 barrel I bought on-line.
358 Win, Remington 700 BDL, 200 SP Hornady, 52 grains TAC
Life member NRA I prefer classic. Semper Fi - SGT I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise.

I use 46.0 grains of H4895 under Sierra 225s for about 2430 fps. Consistently sub-MOA. I can get a little more speed and/or accuracy with 3031 (45 grains) or TAC (49 grains), but at the expense of temp stability.

Ancient thread revisited, but maybe we can get the pet load thread to include a .358 Win pet load link?
I load 44 grains of Reloder 7 under a 180 grain TTSX.
Shoots 3/4” out of my JES rebored Howa 1500.
Livin ain’t killed me yet, but it’s workin on it!

46 grains of H-4895 with a 180 TTSX. It shoots sub inch in two 99’s, recoil is little.

Shoots 3/4” out of my JES rebored Howa 1500. I’ve tried several powders, TAC, X-Term, RL-7 and others. My best accuracy was with RL-7 and I like the 178 Shock Hammer, which is very accurate with great terminal performance. RL-7 is fast enough that compressed loads are not necessary. TAC requires compression. Not a problem with compressed loads, just don’t compress if I have other options. X-Term is another good one. DF

I shoot the Soeer 180 and so far 44 of Re7 has done the best. Two sources say 45 is max but GRT indicates 44 grains.

The 358 is new to me and its use would just be for deer. I see AA2015BR, TAC, Reloader-7, H4895, IMR3031, X-term, IMR4198, and W748 all listed here. I have an ample supply of the 200-gr Win white box ammo, so I am only interested in a pound of one of these powders to play around with. For my use, I don’t see going to more than 200 grains, and preferably lower. I do have a box of the 180-gr TSX’s.
I do have some older AA2460 but it is too slow for the little case. While I got quite good accuracy, it took a compressed load to reach 35 Rem velocities. Which for my purposes isn’t terrible.
Seems I’ve always read that TAC is the powder for the 358. Outside of ordering 1 lb online with the huge hazmat fee, and also the great powder shortages in our area Scheels stores, should any of the above become available, is there agreement on grabbing it? Or, would you wait until your personal favorite showed up?
Should add I prefer a spherical powder for this case, and presume some/many (?) of these are stick powders.
Thanks.

Thanks. TAC was JB's fav in his excellent .358 article. I like faster powders with 180 gr class bullets due to powder compression necessary with the slower ones. Nothing wrong with compressing powder within reason; I just like the faster powders. I got great groups with RL-7 and read that others have, too. I'd suggest trying several to see what your gun likes. May end up using what you can find in today's supply chain scenario. DF

My Browning likes the Speer 180 with 43 grains of H 4198 @ 2711 fps. Acts like a big varmint bullet but is dead nuts accurate in the BLR and kills Tennessee and Alabama deer like lightning. If you want less explosive results shoot for somewhere between 2500 and 2600 fps for a more classic mushroom and still dead deer.

only shot one once... but its previous owner was Ken Howell...who did the article on the cartridge on one of the earlier Nosler Manuals.
his load was with a 200 grain bullet and powdered with RL 7...
was surprised on how light the recoil was.. and also how it busted a good sized rock at 200 or so yards...
He gave it to Scott F... one of our campfire members from up around Portland OR...
Sorry I'd always overlooked the 358 after I shot that rifle...one trigger pull and instant respect for that round... and I would have duplicated Ken Howell's load to a Tee...

Not my first choice for LR shooting, but hard to beat for WT's and such at common ranges.
Hits hard, pretty impressive terminal performance with the right bullet.

I would think at 200 yard / meter and under distances, with a good bullet, it would work quite well on game caribou size and under. I would guess on game performance would be similar to the 338 Federal. I know it is has been said, that some have happily used it in elk, moose, black & grizzly bears. If a 308 Winchester works at the closer distances, seems that 358 Winchester with appropriate bullets certainly would.

I love my 358. I bought two box’s of Nosler 200 gr Accubonds a while back and haven’t done anything with them yet. I also have a bunch of Speer hotcor 220’s. I did shoot a pig this winter and wasn’t impressed with the bad shot I made. Those are good bullets and I need to keep experimenting with them.
I’m always looking for new recipes for it. Hopefully this thread will keep going.
