In Stormship Troopers he says words to the effect that it’s better to do something constructive at the right moment rather than waiting to do the perfect thing after the moment has passed.

Very wise...

Many men are better from those six...

Sadness exists when a man is worse from them.

How about the saddest sonnet I’ve ever read? It’s my favorite, only because of the last couplet.

Methought I saw my late espoused saint
Brought to me, like Alcestis, from the grave,
Whom Jove's great son to her glad husband gave,
Rescu'd from death by force, though pale and faint.
Mine, as whom wash'd from spot of child-bed taint
Purification in the old Law did save,
And such as yet once more I trust to have
Full sight of her in Heaven without restraint,
Came vested all in white, pure as her mind;
Her face was veil'd, yet to my fancied sight
Love, sweetness, goodness, in her person shin'd
So clear as in no face with more delight.
But Oh! as to embrace me she inclin'd,
I wak'd, she fled, and day brought back my night.

Petrarchan (just because)...

To thine East the red sky does morning ablaze
To thy West blue smoke layers many a peak
A wandering man leave his home thus to seek
Mighty Kodiaks that his elders tell becraze

La Dolce Vita women and decades of daze
Ancient architecture of which the Europeans speak
So much confusion and so many freaks
Foreign people and foreign praise

Sends the boy home to a land as permanent as Noah
Sends the boy home to his familiar Bay
Cradled by his armed and sacred Lady he knows he must lay within ya

Simple land and mightily lovely be my Shenandoah
Post haste he returns and swears by God to always obey
His home... to always be Virginia

“Anybody can look at a pretty girl and see a pretty girl. An artist can look at a pretty girl and see the old woman she will become. A better artist can look at an old woman and see the pretty girl that she used to be. But a great artist-a master-and that is what Auguste Rodin was-can look at an old woman, protray her exactly as she is...and force the viewer to see the pretty girl she used to be...and more than that, he can make anyone with the sensitivity of an armadillo, or even you, see that this lovely young girl is still alive, not old and ugly at all, but simply prisoned inside her ruined body. He can make you feel the quiet, endless tragedy that there was never a girl born who ever grew older than eighteen in her heart...no matter what the merciless hours have done to her. Look at her, Ben. Growing old doesn't matter to you and me; we were never meant to be admired-but it does to them.”
― Robert Heinlein

Most pertinent and excellent quotes from Heinlein. It’s refreshing to have an intelligent thread…

Can you guys recommend a specific work by Heinlein? Thanks

Thine East.

Use thine before a vowel, thy before a consonant.

Foreign people and foreign ways.

So as not to repeat a rhyming word.

B+
