I bought a used rifle which was wearing an Abercrombie & Fitch 3.5 to 10 Variable scope. The tube is round but the view is oval like the old Redfield Widefield.

If you are too young to know, the original A&F were the outfitters to the wealthy. To visit their flagship store on Madison Avenue in NYC was a trip to sportsman's heaven. The gun room was manned by suited salesmen wearing white cotton gloves to handle the firearms. The point is, that A&F did not handle any cheap stuff. I have no idea who might have made this scope. I believe it is from the 1970's just around the time they folded. Any thoughts?

In the 1970s, there was really only one source to get privately branded optics made in and that was Japan.

The "tv" view feature in a round ocular , plus the BDC markings in color on the turret cap seem a lot like the Japanese Tascos of that era. I believe they were made by Hakko of Japan. They were/are good scopes.
