I have never had a problem with recoil from the Runger No.1 other than the big bores like the 458 on up, and they are pretty grim in a No.1, but they are grim in any rifle for the most part.
the recoil pads are just solid rubber on the No.1s and the 77s but as far as I'm concerned a big soft recoil pad just gives a rifle a one inch running start at your shoulder!
