Selawik is a rough village to begin with. The fact that the school's principal's husband had multiple felonies and had a gun and then shot one of the local people he was drinking with in a dry village and then cut up the body and put it in a tote just puts the world of Selawik in perspective.

Not out of the "norm" for Selawik.

Working on the water treatment plant in Selawik, few years back, a young gal had died of "unknown causes". Before troopers even had a chance to investigate the scene, coupla guys had already removed the body, wrapped it in sheets and were driving the body around the boardwalks. Supposedly under the "guise" of a native tradition to let the spirit of the deceased visit each home she had lived in.

As a native person and member of a tribe, I call bllsht on that one.......

Cracks me up, young, unsuspecting, new school teachers think they're going to the "Venice" of the northwest Arctic, when they get recruited to Selawik.

I’ll be sure to put Selawik on the list of places to skip if I am ever in the neighborhood…

The guy also buried the body in a tote with his name on it.

Not the sharpest tool in the shed

Best part of the article “inexplicably” shot Snyder three times as he was on his back on the floor, Markiewicz wrote.

Sadly the most believable part of his "defense" reason was to protect the child from having to give the victim a(nother) [bleep].

Mark Begich, Joaquin Jackson, and Heller resistance... Three huge reasons to worry about the NRA.

I visited Seliwik 20 years ago. My next-door neighbor had a brother that was a schoolteacher there. It was a wild experience hanging out in that village for a week. Lots of alcohol abuse, drug abuse, hairspray abuse, anything to get you high! In my opinion, the United States government took a perfectly fine culture and ruined it with welfare programs, etc. Sad. Some young Eskimo girl kept lurking around the little hut that we were staying in. And she was trying to get us to give her some Jack Daniels in exchange, for God knows what. I should have traded some Jack for a Wolverine skirt! We were there in late April and the Caribou migration was coming through. We killed a bunch! At that time if I recall, the herd was at 800,000 animals and increasing at 8% per year. the biologist felt like the range could only support 200,000. The guy I talked to was predicting a population crash and I think it happened. But anyway, Selawik was a very memorable experience.
