Came home from supper tonight and when the car headlights flashed across the old pasture, there were eyes shining back at me. I swung the car around to get a better look and spotted more on the driveway. Swing the car more and there were more deer in the front yard. Hard to be sure but about 18 or so. I haven’t seen a group like that in years.

My youngest son brought a co-worker here for the weekend. They are just finishing a gut/skin on a nice axis doe.

Group up more in the winter wherever the feed is.

Usually we see groups of 6 or less here on the farm. But 18 in the yard/pasture less than 100 feet from the house was unusual. Especially this winter, hardly any snow and it melts quick. So whatever feed is out there is available.

I hunt in central PA and the deer numbers the past few years are really starting to rebound. It was bad there for awhile but they are really starting to bounce back.

Our mule deer really herd up in the winter. It's common to see herds of 100 or more.
