I have a Stainless Shilen barrel mounted on a Tikka T3....the gun is a solid performer. I want to have the barrel removed and contoured to match the factory barrel contour. Any advice/knowledge of doing the project??

If it’s a Shilen measure the barrel profile and compare it to the profile specs they list - you should be able to match it up fairly easy

I like the barrel.... just want it to match the factory contour. Have several stock options with the factory profile verse the current # 3....... I don’t necessarily want to alter my McMillan stock to fit this barrel and then not have the ability to switch back to a factory barreled action with a huge gap in the stock at the shank area

Any advice/knowledge of doing the project?? Then remove the barrel and send it to (say) Lilja.. They'll duplicate it for you easily..

Any reasonably experienced gunsmith should be able to duplicate whatever contour you want.

I contacted Shilen some years ago about me possibly cutting down one of their barrels from #8 to #3.
This year I tapered down and shortened (3) Bartlein barrels from #3 to #2. That took down from ~ 4.5 pounds as a blank to ~2.5 pounds on the rifle.
My finish was rough. So I put Aluma Hyde II on them. They were short actions. I went target practicing out in the sagebrush, and a 6.5-06 long action I built in 2018 was beating them badly in long range and wind. So I hunted with the 6.5-06 and killed (4) animals. My 2019 builds were a bust. They get good groups in no wind at 100 yards:)

Called Lilja.... they won’t work on somebody else’s barrel, but would be happy to make me a new one

Shaw and McGowan do this for something like $30.00 and their turn around time is good too. The stocks it is a very simple operation to open or later fill the barrel channel. The only downside is it might need repainting if it is other than a basic black. With the die supplied by Accraglass and others a good match can usually b made. If it is other than black a sharpie pen has been enough to hide the gap on a couple of projects.

Joel Douglas had me send them a barrel to duplicate and it came back fairly quickly and perfectly done..
