These type of family events provide a sound foundation for all that we stand for. The memories will last a lifetime and the next generation learns valuable skills.

That is a great story, beautiful country and great memories for all.
That being said, I will be the first say no to the jet boat, for this hunt, there is nothing like the silence of traveling by canoe, if you want a jet boat, buy one, but the quietness and simplicity of canoe travel is priceless.
You can improve on your setup, but I would never replace the experience, of river travel by a little bit of man power.

Best post I’ve seen in a very long time. Thanks for sharing. I hope your Kids get to float down that river and tell their kids about your family’s many trips on the river.

HuntClub: I look up this thread every once in a while - usually just before the Big Game Season starts here in Montana! I never tire of looking at all those happy faces having that much fun. But, hey, wait, the very few Leupold naysayers on this forum claim those type things can't be done with a Rifle using a Leupold scope! Actually, I have grown tired of the few idiotic Leupold naysayers on this forum and from now on I may just refer them to this thread. Yeah, that oughta shut those few dinks up. I hope that the O/P and family are out after them again this season. Long live Leupold & Stevens Corporation - a fine American company. Hold into the wind VarmintGuy

I was surprised when I saw this stickied the other day. I am glad you guys enjoyed. It is fun for me to look back.
I have a new crop of "youth hunters" this year (10 year old son and 12 year old daughter). I am hoping to do a similar float again this year but the weatherman will have the final say. I don't go in that country when its raining.
Oh...VarmintGuy, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I finally had a CDS Leupold go belly up. Dialed up on my son's .25-06 and it wouldn't track all the way back down. Replaced it with an older non-CDS Leupold VX3 and we are back in business. Should be making meat in eastern Montana with it Saturday morning.

Great trip in beautiful country! Other than a catamaran set-up, I would suggest an outrigger for both canoes for the added stability with heavy loads and the added safety too.
Thanks for posting the story and pic’s.

I have looked at the outriggers and even bought material to make one that uses ice chests for the outriggers. Never got that complete. The solution for this year is simply more canoes. I presently own five, including a Scanoe with a little 4 HP yamaha, so we are pretty well set to keep gear organized. Three canoes should be great plenty.

What a great adventure. Spending quality time with the family in the outdoors is priceless. Memories of a lifetime. Great job Dad. Your kids will never forget that trip. They will be telling that story to their children.
