Thinking of a 4" 9mm. Anyone have experience with both? Opinions?

I've shot a lot of Glocks, and a couple DA/SA SIGs. I much prefer the consistent trigger pull and lower bore axis of Glocks. But those are MY preferences.
SIG makes good handguns, and so does Glock. Ultimately YOU will be the one carrying and shooting the pistol, so those intangibles will be for you to sort out. Ideally you should shoot one or both pistols before making a decision. That shouldn't be difficult with the G19.

The p238 is a 3" .380
That said, I have owned the 9mm version (p938) and currently own a Glock 19. For defensive purposes, go with the Glock.

after looking at some of the water-dirt-sand-mud tests on the military arms channel the conclusion I arrived at was the striker fired guns seem to have a better chance of working under less than ideal conditions. The SIG226 got mud under the hammer and predictably did not fire, the SIG226 seemed to have a lot of trouble in other areas as well. I would expect a fine Wilson or fill in the blank 1911 to fare about as well as any other gun with 1 thou tolerances. The Glocks always seem to fare well and I like their 9mm G19 a lot. On the other hand that new HK VP9 looks interesting as does the SIG 320.

My every day carry is a G19. I don't think you could go wrong with that choice.

Thinking of a 4" 9mm. Anyone have experience with both? Opinions? Why are you comparing a .380, single stack, pocket gun, with a Glock 19?

The M11 handgun is the SIG P228. Which isn't much smaller than the P226. And no longer in production. Considering the multitude of good used P226 pistols for sale, check them out. New ones are available.

New ones are available. I used to have a West German made P228. Should never have sold it. Even if I still had it, though, I'd still prefer a Glock 19 over it for defensive carry.

Glock 19 because its one of the most versatile, reliable pistols ever made

Thinking of a 4" 9mm. Anyone have experience with both? Opinions? I have carried and used the P229/.40 and Glock 23 extensively, If you're and exceptional shot, you'll appreciate the Sig. If you just want a good reliable blaster that shoots well enough and carries nice IWB, get the Glock.

To be clear... I'm not taking sides between Glock versus SIG. I do suggest shooting both guns before choosing

Thinking of a 4" 9mm. Anyone have experience with both? Opinions? P228, P229, and G19, yes to experience, and yes to opinions, on both a professional level with contract purchase in large lots, training, and maintenance; as well as on a personal and individual level. Issued combat pistols in large lots: - striker fired Glocks have more advantages, vs disadvantages, compared to hammer pistols, when weighing all the logistics involved in purchase, training, performance, and maintenance. Combat pistol for private use: - the above becomes moot, as individual preferences are of greater importance and influence, than choices made for a large uniform group. Me, personally: - prefer 229 over 228, even though some argue the 228 has good balance in hand. - inside about 40 yards, when running timed and measured drills on our various steel and paper courses/drills; I have preference for the ergos of the Glock. - we do train and run drills that routinely go to 100 yards, and sometimes further. These are shot on a steel b/c torso, the rectangle is less than 12 inch wide by less than 18 inch tall. Having only one shot to make a solid hit, at two handed, at strong hand, at weak hand. We start the course at 40 yards, and go from there. I get to the 100 yard mark with the Sig, as do most of our top shooters, whereas with the Glock, the groups open up and you start running into trouble at about the 70 yard mark. This is mirrored by machine rest accuracy testing. So, inside 40 yards on a production pistol, pick the one having your preference in ergos. But, if having better production accuracy beyond 50 yards is important to you, the Sig may have an advantage, and in that case, the flatter shooting 357sig out of a P229 would likely be a better choice than any 9mm. Best

Thinking of a 4" 9mm. Anyone have experience with both? Opinions? I'm thinking you mean the P938 so I'll go with it. Three different pistols, two different missions. Both the P228 and the G19 are slightly smaller than full-size service pistols. They are both proven guns with the P228 being the M11 service pistol which has served beside the more wider issued Beretta M9 for years. I've owned one and they are excellent guns. The P938 is an excellent small 9mm. Single stack, it will not have the firepower of the other two guns but will be much easier to conceal. I would put it in the "pocket gun" category. While not deep concealment, it is very concealable. The P228 is absolutely one of the best 9mm's I've ever owned. So is the P938 but it has a different mission.

I myself am wondering if the VP9 or PPQ would be more in the Sig accuracy range?

I own a P938 with both a pocket and a belt holster. Conceals great in a belt with a shirt tail out. With the pocket holster carry I need sturdy denim pants with a deep pocket to make it work. Best of luck!

The M11-A1 is a commercial 229 (2nd gen, 15 rd mag) with 228 grips and some additional anti corrosion treatments. Not same pistol as US issue M11. Original poster probably meant P229 since he added (m11-a1).
