My son sold a lot of our hay in Texas this year for $150 ton plus trucking. Some of the the trucks hauled 34 rolls some 38 rolls and charged $1,800 to $2,400. All of our hay is tested for TDN and RFQ. Worked out good for all parties.

Square or round bales? Last year's crop? How many truckloads?

I've got a neighbor looking, and there's none around here for love or money.

I can give GPS coordinates, and you need to get it between 2:00-4:00 AM…

I'm surprised no one is feeding Mix 30.

Never grew grass hay but did alfalfa.

Back then i tried to sell at 3.50 a 78lb bale but no one bought it.

Raised up to 4.50 and could not keep any in the hay shed.

Last i cut sold for 5.50 bale and same thing happened could not keep any for long.

Made some money for cost of water/fertilizer and wire/parts when needed but made enough to have some spending money.

Next time i raise hay i will have a tractor with a cab and do large round bales, you know the type one does not have to pick up by hand.

I miss the smell and color.

Im having to buy 70 alfalfa big squares at $115 a bale to get through. Have been feeding ground first cutting alfalfa/orchard grass rounds mixed with ground rye straw and silage, just don't have enough hay to get through after the drought this year. Those 70 should hopefully get me through the last month before turn out in may.

We have a half million dairy cows in this area and that takes a lot of alfalfa. Probably 95% is big bales, of course. We've been in a drought but the hay crop last summer was ok but far from great. Some irrigation districts had to cut back on water before the 3d cutting. Some years they can get a 4th cutting of alfalfa but I don't think anyone got that last year.

Sin wouldn't be so attractive if the wages were paid immediately.
