I really don't know what the soft drink business was like during the late '70's / early '80's in Montana. But, the construction business and farming were in a world of hurt and that was on a
nationwide basis. That is my perspective and I am not blind to or ignorant of, the the last 20 years.

Carter was no fool. He had the House and the Senate and the Presidency at the same time and he used them. He used the Fed to drive interest rates over 19%. The top income tax rate was 74% ![b] That killed any incentive for investing. Manufacturing, construction, transportation, banking and energy were all dead in the water. jimmy was pushing for "deindustrialization" of America (his Commerce Secretary's term). Investors put their money overseas or off-shore and waited. The inflation rate was was under 7% when jimmy took office. By the end of his first year it was over 9%. In his second year it was over 13% and the last two years it bounced around between 15% and 18% -- this was per year![b] not the 14% in two years that you quote.

He was the most liberal puke ever when it came to his cabinet members - they weren't "unproven and worthless" they were socialists (i.e. communists) and their goal wasn't some pie-in-the-sky dream...they wanted the whole world to be a great big Marxist community with everything being handed down from the state (run by the caring and liberal people) to the slaves (the rest of us). His foreign foreign policies were just one big, steaming pile of dog schit -- remember the overthrow of the Shaw in Iran so he could be replaced by the Muzzy radicals; or the gifting of the Panama Canal to the Panamanian dictator; how about the Iranian Hostage Crisis - 444 days of bliss; the Mideast Peace Initiative that is still haunting us today; the Russian Grain embargo...on and on and on.

His domestic policies were just as bad as evidenced by the skyhigh crime rates, drop in high school graduation rates and the standard of living taking a nosedive off a cliff. I understand that B&O were/are the same but jimmy took a real run at destroying the country.

It's not worth getting into a pissing match over which is a worse president. I think what I think and you will think your thoughts. It's just sad that this great country has to endure such asshats every so many years because the electorate chooses so poorly.

And more than likely just a few County's in these 2 States
