Couple of questions: I have a rifle I'm going to use the Leupold one-piece DD on. Will it help to bed it like a rail? Has anyone used the quick-release one-piece base? How solid does it hold the rings? Does the scope return to zero after being removed or does it require slight adjustment to return to zero? What are the pros/cons of using the QR versus the DD mount?

Probably guys are avoiding your question because bases and ring choice is highly subjective. I will say that there used to be a lot of talk about this QR system being weak. You also don't say what rifle it's going on. Is there a reason you need a 1 piece?? Those are most times frowned upon on a nice lightweight rifle. Again, you don't say what it's going on. Furthermore, you will know if it needs to be bedded, based on how well it fits the receiver. That is/should be a no brainer..
I try to stick with the basics, they do so well. Nothing fancy mind you, just plain jane will get it done with style. You want to see an animal drop right now? Shoot him in the ear hole. BSA MAGA

I’m thinking that one of my rifles has a Leupold one piece base. Whatever it is, it’s been rock solid

I've been here awhile, but don't recall the discussion. Mounts will be going on a 3-hole Remington Model 7, 308 Win. No specific reason for a 1-piece mount. Thanks for the response.

If you want to increase your mounting options a gunsmith can drill that 4th hole. That’s what I did and then went with Talley lightweights although there is also some discussion about those cracking on here. Regardless, it will expand your opportunities for mounts if you get that 4th hole drilled. Good luck, Bob

I use Leupold Dual Dovetail scope mounts are my high-recoil T/C Encore barrels - 300 WinMag, 7mm RMag, and especially 460 S&W. They hace done a good job of locking scopes in place.

I like the QR mounts and rings. I would guess I have almost three dozen base/ring sets on rifles from 22 rimfire, 222, 300 Wby, 375 H&H and have had no problems of any kind. All of mine are two piece versions.

I had the rifle out a short time ago, trying to determine if there's enough metal on the bridge for a 4th hole; obviously there is. I assume the easiest method would be to purchase the 4-hole mount I want and let the smith use it as a template to drill the 4th hole.

I have several rifles configured with QR mounts and find them to be plenty strong and repeatable. Just need to resist the temptation to over-torque the levers, for the short levers of the QRs will feed the temptation to use a tool vs. your fingers.
If rigidity and strength are the primary aim, it's hard to beat a one piece base w/ DDs.
