I have no experience with grinders. I'm ready to take the plunge. For a guy that does a couple or 3 deer a year, will a .5 hp 8# machine and a 5-8# stuffer suffice? Thanks

A hand crank grinder will suffice. Your paying for time saved and less frustration with the larger sizes.

Understood about the time saved, but could you elaborate on the kind of frustrations I might encounter with a .5 8# machine versus the next step up, say .75hp 11# machine? Just trying to decide if the larger machine is that much better experience than the smaller unit for their respective prices. I don't mind spending if it is, just looking to avoid overkill if it really isn't necessary. Thanks

Bigger the motor the faster it will grind which helps to keep the meat cooler
Larger sizes have a bigger throat as well
More power to grind up silver skin, tendons, etc
Less time needed to clean out clogged plates.
I suspect the larger grinders are easier to clean.
A bigger machine is not necessary, it’s convenient. I would bet half the people who own a 3/4hp model or smaller wished they had bought a more powerful model if they do at least 2-3 deer a year. We average 5.

My 3/4 hp does the job. But I am in the market for a 1.5 hp model for all the reasons just mentioned.

Snowwolf, Thanks for the reply and clarity. If you want to unload your .75hp unit, shoot me a PM with specifics. I might be interested in a used unit.

Unfortunately the weight of a grinder makes it uneconomical to ship.

It's great. Not too loud, you can push a lot of volume through it quickly. Parts are heavy duty and clean up easily.

I've used the chamber sealer twice and don't know why I didn't get rid of my food saver long ago.

grinder Had one of these for three years, probably eight deer plus pork to make sausage. Very heavy machine and fast. wish the pan was bigger, but that is the only gripe that I have. Notice the heavy duty switch. miles

I just got the #32 grinder, the chamber vac and the dehydrator. They all look like nice units. Tried the chamber vac on a bunch of snack sticks and summer sausage logs and it works awesome, so much better than my old food saver!
Plan to use the grinder and dehydrator this week will post back with results.
Congratulations on your new pieces, what I found out so far is that I seem to have more friends now🤔 as they want me to grind and make them stuff!

Bumping this up. The #32 is a beast. Very well manufactured and heavy.

No. I'm trim my grind more than I oroabaly should. Most of it was pretty warm. The fat was cold. But with that big of a grinder, not sure it matters.

Went to grinding some elk trim again this morning. Put up 20# burger with 15% beef suet. 12# of b-fast sausage with 35% pork leaf lard.

Got enough for one more session. Probably around labor day.

Worst part is clean-up!

I have always been a LEM guy but with so many great reviews I would consider MYM brand if replacing or starting up.
