Greetings

Although purely subjective , I am looking for opinions on the following scenario. I currently own a Winchester 70 with a leupold vx2 3x9 in .308 that’s used for all around hunting.

Being that Meopta optika5/6 being the same glass and coatings does anyone have experience comparing it against leupold vx 2 glass?

I am thinking about swapping the leupold for the Meopta and with out the ability of checking the scope out locally, opinions needed. Thanks

Hey

After 40 years of Leupolds I just got my first Meopta, an Optika 5 2-10x42. In my sample of one this Meopta is as clear and bright as any Leupold I ever looked through. You can stare through it for long periods without getting eye strain. Price is very attractive.

On the down side, the scope is HEAVY, and the power selector ring is so big I had to use medium rings for the bolt to clear. Overall I'm happy with it.

Make the swap and don’t look back.

I have two 3-9x40 VX2 Scopes. I have a Meopta Optika 5 4-20x50. Kinda hard to make a direct comparison given the obvious differences. "Glass" is similar. Though I give sharpness to the Optika, and as mentioned above, it's easier to shoot it for longer periods of time. Surprisingly the one time I took my Optika to well beyond sunset, it didn't impress me. It didn't disappoint either, as I got a doe right at last legal shooting time, but other than the red dot, the Optika offered no discernible advantage. Leupold wins the weight comparison, eye relief and eye box. The Optika does exactly as instructed on getting it sighted in. The Leupolds are the usual guessing game.

If you are hunting at first and last legal shooting times, I'd say get the Optika with a red dot. If you don't want the red dot, it's not really worth the swap on a gun that only gets shot a few times a year.

Meopta made a big mistake dropping the Meopro line. The Optika scopes are nice on a Tactical or varmint rifle but they are to heavy on a hunting rifle. JMHO

You won’t be disappointed in the optics on the Meopta. Especially for
The money. I have several meopro scopes and bought an Optika6 when the came out. I sold it after hunting with it. It was just way too big and heavy for my needs. The Leupold is a completely different animal. But if you are strictly comparing glass, I’d put the Meopta every bit as bright and clear as a vx2. I’m keeping my ear to the ground to see how Meopta’s new meosport scopes are reviewed once Doug starts shipping some out. I may just go ahead and order one so I can see for myself! I hope they are optically equivalent to the optika but I don’t think I’ve seen that confirmed.

Meopta Optika scopes (and the Meopro which the Optika replaced) have much better glass and reliability than a VX-2 or VX-3. The only drawback is the tube size and weight. Meopta should have kept a 1" tube in their lineup.

I have Meostar, Meopro and Optikas (5 & 6).

The Optika5 is a 1” tube and Optika6 is a 30mm tube.

I like the optics of the Optika lines very well. I was extremely impressed when hunting with the 3-18x50 in lowlight, extremely. I’d rate it with my Zeiss V4, even though the internet says it’s inferior.

FWIW, my Optikas all say Meopro on them.

I believe the Optika5 is better optically than the VX-3i. I owned both. Now I only own the Optika5.

That’s just my experience. Yours may vary.

On a side note, I’ve had great experiences buying from Doug at Cameraland. They’ve really done well by me and everyone I’ve referred to them.

I think the Meopta glass has become my favorite

That being said I need to set up my new Mesa and Fieldcraft at sometime and doubt I will do anything other that a Leupold for the weight especially. But I really hate the eye piece adjustment

But the rifles that sits on a bench or my 450 Belgara it’s Meopta all the way
I think they are just great
I had a 3x 9 by 50 R1 thought it was great but could not get past the 50mm

Great to read all the positive comments about Meopta glass. I have used almost all of Meopta's scopes including the new for 2022 MeoSport R 3-15x50 RD. Nothing like buying an optic made by a company known for their glass! I agree they are overbuilt and the Optika6 is heavy. I have been fortunate to not have any issues with the oversized power ring giving me any issues. I do like the Optika6 line and the 30mm tube along with the exposed turrets of the FFP scopes. Reach out to Doug and he can help you out, if you are Le/Mil/First Responder, drop me a note and I'll help you out.

Bman - what do you think of the meosport 3-15? Looks like a direct competitor for the vortex razor lht 3-15 at less than half price.
