I have an 06 in a stainless new Haven fwt. What is the deal with these. Supposed to be factory bedded, but I question if it was done right. I hate to bugger the walnut stock. But wonder if Id ruin the value if I did some work to it. I'm not impressed with way it shoots currently. I thought of trying a hogue stock. Anyway, curious of opinion on these rifles. Thanks for your thoughts!

Anyone who knows what they're doing should be able.to rebed it.

Bedding it properly will not hurt the value. Let someone competent do the job.

Adding a hogue stock would defeat the whole purpose of owning a Featherweight.

Thanks guys. I've bedded a couple of rifles myself. I put a plastic bread bag tab under the lug like JB recommended. I'm gonna try another load tomorrow if the wind isn't too bad. I've really not used much other than factory loads.

Mostly I was curious if the new Haven rifles are known for being good or junk

Thanks for asking. I shot it over the weekend with some hand loaded 165 SGK over 60 grains of 4831sc. This was with the bread tab. It didn't shoot any better than before. Group is about 2 inches. I should have tried the same factory loads.

I think I'm gonna work on bedding it and see what that does. I've got some JB weld steel on hand. Thinking of using it, but maybe should spring for some Accra glass.

Got an uncle in the hospital so my free time may be limited for a bit.

Until you do a real bedding job on it, there's no way to tell how accurate it is. I like to tape the flats on the sides of the receiver but it probably doesn't matter.

This is the factory bedding. Think it can be improved? I can certainly raise it up to better float the barrel but the bread tab didn't make a difference.

Yep. That's the year I bought it. Winchester had just gone out of business.

I think I had an FN PBR-XP 308 with similar bedding: minimal amounts of dark gray epoxy. Pretty sure it was a New Haven gun; it was CRF with a non-boxed trigger. Unfortunately I sold the gun so I can't look at it to compare.

It does shoot minute of deer. I got this one within the first year or so that I had it. Maybe I just need to try a few more load/bullet combos.
