If it feeds, then sure. For the uninitiated, getting short fat cases like the .243 and .308 to feed can be a challenge in a 98. I prefer the 6mm Rem. Got a fast twist 6mm barrel on the way.

Good evening to you sir, I hope the day down in Colorado treated you well.
Hopefully it's okay if a garage level gun plumber offers you a hearty "Amen" to your thought about it being a bit of a challenge.
A now long passed on shooting and gun plumbing mentor had a near new Parker Hale so Santa Barbara action in either .308 or .243, I forget which that just didn't feed for beans from either side. We fooled with different followers, with different magazine springs, polished this rail a wee bit, then that one. Finally it fed better but my goodness it resisted with great determination.
The idea to try a test dummy round or three is always a great idea in my experience.
When John Barsness recommended I do that with a 98 that was first a .30-06, then a .270, I then tried some 6.5x55's and happily it fed them better than the previous two. That helped cement the decision to have that chambering as its new barrel.
Thanks again for the good suggestions.
All the best.
Dwayne
