I posted this over in the gunsmithing forum but thought I would try here as well:

Gunsmiths here in the Flathead have changed somewhat over the years since I've needed any work done and was hoping someone here would have a suggestion or two for a good quality gunsmith who isn't just building remmy, long range bughole shooters. I know about Dennis Olson and have used him in the past and very pleased with his work but wanted some alternatives since Dennis gets pretty stacked up at times.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I've used Denis Olson a few times shipped my stuff to him from here in So Cal. He does outstanding work at a more than fair price and it seems to me his turnaround was always quick. Last of the old timers, way more than just a pipe fitter...

Dennis Olson is the guy if you want it done right.

Me. I'm grate. Really.

Depends on what you want, but I have patronized Timber Stevens (Big Sky Gunsmithing). It's been a while since our last job but I think he's still in business east of Evergreen.

Thanks for the input.
I'll check out Dan in victor and give Dennis a call to see what the backlog looks like.

John King (King Machine) in Kila is Outstanding! He can build anything in reasonable time and a fair price. Walking back into his shop, I just stood there with my mouth open looking at the machinery. Very impressive and very well respected around the valley.

Thanks Dave. I've used Timber in the past but I think he may be done, had some serious health issues, was helping the guy who took over his shop but they do mostly rebarrels and not much else.

I'll check King machine out, thanks for the tip.

I've had both Dan Coffin and Dennis Olsen do rifle work for me. They're both great and I haven't noticed Dennis' timeframe to be out of the ordinary. I just dropped a rifle off with him two weeks ago to be barrel lined.

If you're wanting work done to specific rifle parts, barrel lining or other similar milling work done to an existing gun I'd suggest Dennis. If you want something rebarreled or a rifle completely built from an action I'd suggest Dan, both can do whatever you'd like. Dan Coffin is especially good with revolvers.
