How much different is the M77 African stock from the Hawkeye? I know they are slimmer, but how much?

I haven't measured but the difference is significant, that is on the limited edition Models from Lipseys..the basic Africans seem to be no different from the M77 Hawkeye.... Mine in .275 Rigby...

Yeah, Ingwe, looking at the pictures and reading about how much you like you're is what has me thinking about what it would take to duplicate a mirror image using th LH -06 I have.
Thanks.

Tom, thanks, I'm weighing that as an option - one last "perfect" rifle for these last couple of decades to hunt.
I'd need a Schnabel on it though.

I'd need a Schnabel on it though. Renner can do that.... My Renner Pre-War M77 - started out as a Ruger red pad, tang safety, round top M77 in 7mm Magnum. RJ Renner remodeled the stock in the Pre-War fashion w/Schnabel fore-end, case-hardened the receiver and added a Williams receiver sight. The 3rd picture is in comparison to a standard M77.

I'd need a Schnabel on it though. I can highly recommend Roger Renner for that one "perfect" rifle - he's done six perfect ones for me! His work isn't cheap but it's a darn sight less than getting a full blown custom stock made. RJ Renner websiteHere is another Ruger 77 he did up as a pre-war German Sporter, the stock started out as a standard Hawkeye. I did a write-up on this a couple years ago but the photobucket pics were deleted so I uploaded an abbreviated series of pics to the Image Gallery. Roger can do pretty much whatever you want - with the side panels, without, you name it. What the pics don't show is how much he slenderized the standard Hawkeye stock which ain't exactly a club to begin with. You can see the contouring around the magazine and behind the action where the pistol grip was slimmed down in the pictures. Everyone who's hefted this rifle remarks on how lively it feels. Jim, I recall that one from the original thread, beautiful rifle. Quesstion, does he do any of the metal work, rebarrel, install the banded front sight, swivel, etc?

Roger can do metal work but I don't know the full extent of his capabilities, although looking at what's offered on his website plus having seen examples of other work he's done they are probably extensive. The sky - and your checkbook - is the limit. He does inlet the front sling swivel stud into the barrel as part of the basic pre-war Sporter package. The NECG front sight shown came with the rifle when I bought it but he has installed a Ruger banded front sight on another rifle I sent him. Tom, that is an NECG ghost ring peep sight on that. Good set and forget sights, very sturdy, and as long as you put the same tension on the mounting screw, i.e. return the slot to the same position, they maintain zero very well when removed and put back on.

I have a CZ-550 FS I would love to send to him for a weight reduction but, that is even more expensive because of the extra lumber CZ leaves on them. I guess I should send it to him or sell it.
