It takes Short, Long, and Long Rifle. Like the Ruger 77/22, I've had it for over 30 years, and hadn't shot it in a while, so thought I'd pull it out and shoot it. Trigger on this rifle is even better than that on the Ruger, which is also excellent. The scope is a Leupold Vari-X-II 3-9 variable, set to 3 power today. I know it can keep them all under an inch at 50 yards, given ammo it likes, but today I was trying it with bulk Remington Thunderbolt .22 Long Rifle, just to see if it can handle it as well as the Ruger did last week. It did not. Best group at 50 yards was 1 and 1/8 inch and on up to one and a quarter inch. I hardly ever see mention of this model of .22 bolt gun. There appear to be no YouTube videos about it.

I can't remember the last time that I saw .22 Longs for sale, does anyone still make them?
I wonder if the utility of being able to feed .22 Shorts, Longs, or Long Rifles is no longer of any practical value.

Very cool. I've got 2 ea. 513-T Remington's on the way, which I used to shoot back in the day. They were extremely accurate.

I have the heavy barrel version of this rifle. It shoots very well with good ammunition like SK Standard Plus. Never tried Thunderbolts in this rifle but I've shot them in other .22's and accuracy was never impressive.

I have a lot of it, so am always looking for a reason to use it up.

Nice one.
It will do better than that. Give it something worthwhile.

A bulk ammo that shoots good in most rimfires is Win. Dynapoints, also Federal Auto Match. My 541T's liked RWS Subsonic and SK Standard. I sold the ones I owned along with a 541S, but built my own 541 from a 581. I call it my wannabe. It utilizes a 541T barrel that was threaded to the 581 action. The chamber is a Win. 52D. It is not finicky on what it likes in ammo. Hawkeye, have you added a second action screw to yours? Makes a difference in accuracy.

Evnin, cool gun. I've got a left hand 581 in 22rf. Shot good in stock form but it now has a take off heavy bbl from win. 52 threaded on it. The trigger safety doesn't work anymore so I only shoot it off the bench mostly. Can't seem to find a trigger anywhere. With SK it will hold 1/2" at 50yds pretty easy. GWP. 🐾👣🐾👣🇨🇦

CCI Std. Velocity is what my rimfire rifles shoot the best. If I do my part I can group 50 shots into one ragged hole @ 50yds. from the bench with a 2.5x Lyman Alaskan scope.

Have a 513 S and T, both are remarkably fond of European manufactured ammo. They do fairly well with CCI SV, but that's the only US manufactured ammo that is acceptable.

I still have some .22 Shorts 'cause my kids liked to shoot them in their Marlin 981TS'. i remember when a carton of 500 Remington High Speed red/white box of Golden Bullet .22 LRs was $5, a little less for Shorts or Longs. The General Store in town would let me put ammo on my Parents' charge account without question starting when I was 12.

I have a Rem 541T and it has been in the safe for too long. Mine liked the old Rem Target shells. I also have the made in Japan Win 52 sporter. They both shoot about the same. I used to shoot a lot of .22 LR but since the big shortage started I have kept my stash. I need to get back with a bit of shooting. Have a great day. Jim

Always wanted a 541-T. I had a 581S as a kid and I would dream of one day owning a 541T. I built a 10-22 that shoots amazing instead. One of my favorite rounds to shoot are CB longs. Modern pellet rifles are louder than my 10-22 with a 22" barrel on it shooting those CB longs.
