My son bought two rifles from my brother today. A Remington 700 BDL from what I think is 1971. The barrel date is PU plus the stock and other details look about that era. This rifle was bought new by my Uncle, went to my cousin then my brother bought it.

The other rifle is a NIB Win. 70 FWT,. in 257 Roberts. I have a question on this rifle. It say's BACO and Made in USA. I assume that means it is not a Portugal rifle.

Poor pics

One thing my son and I like is the stock. The old 700 has better than average wood as you can see in the photo. It has fiddle back off and on from the butt to the fore end tip on both sides. No where near 100% but a nice amount of figure.

That’s two nice rifles!

FWT in 257 is a darn nice rifle. Congrats to your son -- and to your whole family for keeping heirloom rifles in it!

I'd be tempted to scrape that bowling ball finish off and true oil that stock.

Both are very nice rifles. That USA made featherweight is giving me a real hard on though lol. You won't find a better made factory rifle for the price in my opinion!

I'd give it a good rub with rottenstone first.

That 700 locks the bolt.
Some will disagree, I love it.

2 very desirable rifles.

Nice rifles. Regarding finishes, the Remington finish has held up nicely for over 50 years. Tru-Oil won't if used much at all.

The gun is 52 years old, I wouldn’t touch it.

My opinion as well - I have one just like it and it shoots consistently under 1/2” (3-shot groups)with 130 grain Hornady GMX.
