I'm always excited to see what guys bring to deer camp.
We have mostly guys who don't much care if they get a deer, but really like they're rifles.
First two days of PA Rifle season and so far we have kills with a Browning BLR in.300wm , a marlin 1894 in .357, a marlin 336 in .30-30 and a savage 110 .350 legend.
Still trying tomorrow are a couple marlin .45-70s, a 20ga Mossberg 500, a Ruger Blackhawk.44mag and a Remington 760 .300 Savage.
Hopefully we add a few more to the list!

Rob hunts with a synthetic / stainless 7mm-08. Dwight prefers a Winchester 94 in either 30-30 or .44 Magnum. Frank & Ross both shoot .35 Whelen. I'm a Ruger #1 guy & I let whimsy or a coin flip decide what I'm going to hunt with. Last year I used my .303 British. This year I'm going to hunt with my 6.5x55 SE or my .275 Rigby RSI.

Most of the hunters own but one hunting rifle and used for deer and bear. 30-06 slide action rifles are common but always a 30-30 or two. - Sherwood

lots of 7-08,6.5 creeds, and 280's , guys are trending to smaller calibers. Used to be lots of 30-30's and 06's years ago. Guess they figured out that white tail aren't wearing the body armor anymore.

A marlin .30-30 and a Ruger American in .243 got on the board today.
20 gauge slug missed a doe twice.
I came home until Saturday.

Hunted solo out of my house "camp" this year. I had three rifles ready to go. I harvested my buck with a Remington 760 Carbine in .30-06. Also hunted with a Remington 7600 Carbine in .30-06. Unfortunately, my Remington 7600 in .358 Winchester with 20" Krieger barrel did not make it out into the woods. All have lower power Leupold scopes.

In Alabama I saw 7mm08s, 6.5 CMs, 25-06, 270, 7mm mag and a 308. Trend is smaller calibers in durable weather resistant rifles. I used a swaro Z3 on my rifle but most all other rifles I saw had a scopes with a gold ring on them. Newer rifles had 40ish objectives but over all equally distributed between those and 50ish objectives. Younger guys are interested in dials where as the old boys are sticking with point and shoot.
In Ohio where I am now there is a mixed bag of firearms. Newer rifles are definitely trending toward the 350 Legend in scoped bolt guns. Some 45-70s and even a sluggun holdout. I’m shooting a 350 legend in a Winchester XPR with a VX3i 2.5-8x36.
Life can be rough on us dreamers.

Spent a week in MT chasing mulies, saw all bolt guns:
My Nosler M48 in .270Win with Leupold VX6HD 2-12 My friends Tikka Light in 7mm RM with Burris "something". Rem 700 in 30-06 Leupold VX3 3-9 Tikka in 6.5C Rem 700 in .308Win
Tomorrow is our opener and I'll be hunting my neighbors with a Rem M7 in .350 for the wooded and my Nolser M48 for the row crop fields. Next week a bunch of us are doing a couple drives on WIHAs, so I'll see some Marlin 336s in 30-30 and .35Rem. I'll be using my M7 in .350RM.

Wife and I were alone in camp this year. We took a Winlite FWT 270 (mine) and a 700 Classic 250 for her. Also toted along a Ruger M77 Ultralite 257 as a backup and a good 22LR. Actually not a bad battery all things considered.

In our camp:
Couple Browning BARs in .30-06 Remington 700 .30-06 Remington 700 7mm Mag Mauser M12 .308 Savage 10 .308 Rossi 92 .44 Mag
This will change from year to year depending on what guys have a penchant to bring to camp. Scopes range from Leupold to Nikon to Zeiss. Most of the group shoots factory ammo while there is a handloader in there.

My brother belongs to one of the old hunting clubs in the Adirondacks (founded pre-1900) and in a couple of the turn of the (last) century pictures of the members and their rifles the overwhelming favorite rifle seems to be the Savage 99.

There was an older, grade 1, Browning BAR in 30-06, a Howa 1500 in 7mm-08 and I was using my 375/350. No animals were harmed during the hunt...

I rotate rifles during deer season. Last week I brought my Marlin 30AS in .30-30 and my buddy brought his 300 PRC because he's never shot anything with it yet. Didn't get anything and this coming week I'll be using the Lee-Enfield #4 Mk 1 with some handloads with a Sierra 180 gr. Pro-Hunter fueled by RL-15. I really appreciate the rear aperture (peep) sights on those things and where I plan on sitting I would never get a shot past about 75-100 yards. IIRC my buddy is bringing his 6.5 Creedmoor next time around.

We don't have a "camp" per se, just a farm on the edge of a lot of national forest.
Not a whole lot of guns, but I tend to go overboard and bring three every season.
There's a Rem Sportsman 78 in .30-06, a Rem 700 BDL .30-06, a Savage 110 .270 Winchester, a couple Marlin 336s in .30-30, a couple AR15s, and my three rifles I brought this year were a X-bolt in 6.5 PRC, a Tikka T3X SuperLite .308 Winchester, and a Ruger 77 Mark II in .308 Winchester. I think there were five or six deer killed.

Our micro-camp has seen only a Ruger 77 tang in 7x57 used by my son, a 7mm-08 Abolt Micro used by son n law and wife, and a pair of OptimaV2 CVAs used by my wife and me. So far 2 down by muzzleloader, 1 by 7-08, 3 by 7x57. 7-08 is yet to be locked away.

Ruger SBH Hunter .45 colt, Nikon 2x eer 90gr NAB 5. Winchester M70 Extreme Weather 7wsm, Steiner 3-15x50 150gr ETip
Easy to tell who the rifle nut is.
My dad is a bird hunting shotgun lover. He owns exactly one centerfire rifle. He's that guy who shoots 3 shots to confirm his 1 inch high at 100 yds each year in October then shoots 1 or 2 deer at 77 yards each deer season. Recently had shoulder surgery so he asked me for a lighter recoiling 270 load. Hit the easy button and got some Hornady Lite loads. 120gr SST at 2675. Hardly any recoil in his ABolt. Dead deer.

Most of our guys hunt with some kind of bolt action. Remington 700 30-06, 270 and 280, Savage 110 30-06, Ruger 77 280, Savage 340 30-30, Remington 722 257 Roberts, Remington 760 30-06 and one family all uses Remington 742 30-06. So far, I've carried my Kimber Hunter 308, Browning X-Bolt 30-06 and Marlin 336 30-30. I'm really liking the Kimber. I have a few more in the safe to take out for a walk soon.

We used to have 1 12 gauge smoothbore 870 with Remington Sluggers, a Mossberg 695 rifles 12 gauge with sabots, and my H&R 12 gauge Trophy Slugster loaded with Federal Premium Barnes expanders. Now, the same 3 men carry 2 Ruger American Ranch Rifles in 350 Legend, and my left hand Savage Axis in 350 Legend. More accurate, less recoil, and still deadly on Whitetails.

No camp this year. Too much going on but so far I've carried a 700 ADL in 30-06 , 700 Mountain rifle in 06 and a 7600 carbine in 06. The carbine has accounted for the only kills , 2 does and a decent 8 point. Still have a little over a month of gun season and 3 tags. Hope to get something else on the board

We have to hunt straight wall ammo in Iowa. 350 Legend has become the go to round to hunt with. Going second firearm season this weekend.
Primary rifle is Ruger American Predator in 350 Legend.
Backup's are Rossi Puma 92 in .454 Casull
& "Black Beauty" Remington Super Magnum Express with a rifled slug barrel. Shoot 2 3/4 sabots through that one. She has killed a pile of deer over the years but is semi-retired now.

So far this year I’ve hunted with a 336 in 35 rem and shot a pretty good 10point at about 85 yards through thick brush. Hunted my Rem 700 270 with lilja barrel. Rem 700 7 mag. Model 7 stainless in 7-08 and an old varmint special in 6mm. My buds have used kimber 84 in 308, my 270, a 6.5/06, rem 700 300 win mag, and a Rem 700 with a hart 280 AI barrel.

Not a "camp", but six of us went this afternoon with the intention of killing a few does off my buddy's property. We had a pretty eclectic mix of rifles today:
7.5x55 Swiss - T/C Encore (me) .308 Win - Whidden custom Remington 700 6.5 Man-Bun - Savage Axis (the rube of the bunch) .350 Rem Mag - Remington Seven MS .450 Marlin - E.R. Shaw custom .280 Rem - Remington 700 SS
Unfortunately, only the .308 drew blood today...

On the last weekend in PA I finally gave in and shot a doe with a marlin 45-70.
We had a nice 7 point taken on the last afternoon with a Remington 760 in 30-06 (best $200 he ever spent he says!)
And another doe with a marlin 30-30

I hunt at home so my house is my camp. I got a popup I hunt out of that I can see from the house . About 120 yards out in front of the popup is a field road that currently has 8 scrapes on it . Have seen plenty of deer but haven't killed any yet as I have a huge for this area buck spotted and am waiting to get a good shot at him before I do my meat hunting. Right now I'm using a Remington model 14 in .35 Remington . If I get Big Boy I'll use my Winchester model 71 and another model 14 in .32 Remington for the rest of the season. All are peep sight guns. I passed on six does and a large four point yesterday waiting for Big Boy but he never showed. I've seen him twice , always between 9:00 and 9:30 but not had a good clear shot .
I got a bunch of deer rifles so I try to rotate through three every season.
Grumpy old man with a gun.....Do not touch . Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6. Don't bother my monument and I'll leave yours alone.

Our guys are mostly older guys and retired. Used to see Winchesters and Remingtons in 30-06 and 270 and a few lever Marlins.
Nowadays those old long heavy guns with pretty walnut are gone. Synthetics with short barrels in milder calibers just rule. Tikka, Browning and a couple Weatherbys are all our gang brings. We must be way out of touch, not one Creedmore to be found. Hard to believe we fill our tags.
Sidexsides, box blinds, tree stands, pop-ups, have changed the hunting style. I’d like to think wisdom is a factor, but age probably ranks way ahead of that Our boots, clothes, guns and gear are all lighter Even our knives are smaller and lighter.
The best stories still center around those old guns, disfunctional clothes and cold wet feet Glad I was part of all that though.

Christensen Arms Mesa 450 Bushmaster Ruger American 450 Bushmaster TC Encore MGM 450 Bushmaster Custom 450 Marlin Winchester 94 45LC Ruger American 350 Legend I still have a Mossberg 695 12 gauge slug gun. And I'm casually looking for a smoothbore pump. Ithaca Deerslayer or something similar just because. But the slug guns are certainly fading. I keep my 695 because it was a graduation gift and I apply to some limited draw hunts that still require the use of a slug gun. It also is a great shooting slug gun. But the price to feed them and the shoulder beating just isn't worth it when I have a .44mag, .350 legend available.
Small Game, Deer, Turkey, Bear, Elk....It's what's for dinner.

I'll turn the clock back to my first deer camp (as a teenager in the 1970's) in the NY Catskill Mountains (south side of the Pepacton Reservoir in Delaware County).
The guns I still recall vividly on the gun racks include:
multiple Remington 760, all in 30-06 . One had basketweave checking. multiple Remington 740 and 742, all in 30-06 Savage 99 EG , 300 Savage Marlin 336 Sporting Carbine, 30-30 Marlin 336A , 30-30 Marlin 336C, 30-30 DCM-purchased 1903-a3 Springfield, 30-06, original sights Browning auto-5 Buck Special, 12 gauge
All had blued steel (or parkerized) with walnut stocks. The good old days.
Magical and memorable times way back when. Good people, safe hunters, a lot of laughter, good food and good story tellers. It doesn't get any better for a teenager.

One had basketweave checking. multiple Remington 740 and 742 in 30-06 Savage 99 EG in 300 Savage Marlin 336 Sporting Carbine 30-30 Marlin 336A , 30-30 Marlin 336C, 30-30 DCM-purchased 1903-a3 Springfield 30-06, original sights Browning auto-5 Buck Special, 12 gauge
Magical and memorable times way back when. Good people, safe hunters, a lot of laughter, good food and good story tellers. Doesn't get any better for a teenager. I've hunted Delaware and Sullivan counties my whole life. My club/camp is south of Downsville. Back in the '70s, that would have been a pretty good representation of most of the camps in the area.
My heart's in the mountains, my heart is not here. My heart's in the mountains, chasing the deer.

If it’s the usual hunters……a .338 WM and a .375 AI. If the other two are with us a pair of .270 Win.’s! memtb 270’s? Ha! Stunt shooters! Yep….a couple of girls that don’t shoot much and are a bit recoil sensitive! 😉 memtb

Locally I saw a fired 6.5 CM case carried by most likely a woman. I saw the foot print and there was a squat to pee spot. She was exceptionally deep in the woods. The I I bumped into two guys on road out when I was repacking. They were road hunters together. One had a beat up 336 JM in 30-30, the other a 700 bdl in 300wm.

Ron 350s are catching on where I hunt in Ohio as well. By next year I figure just about everyone I hunt around up there will be using one. I only seen one slug gun left in the group.
Life can be rough on us dreamers.

My KS hunt with FIL, he used a Rem semi-auto 30-06, his grandson used grandfathers Marlin 30-30 (killed a doe), I used Defiance/Proof 308 (buck and doe), FIL didn't connect.
