My earlier post wasn't intended to denigrate the 458 win mag. but just to say what I plan to do. Maybe a better Lott vs. Win. question would be, "is it worth it to chamber a full length magnum action to the shorter 458 Win. Mag. cartridge in order to make it feed more reliably"?

I'm left handed, so I have to make more compromises. The few CRF Winchester left hand rifles, out there, are made from soft tooling. So replacement parts will be unobtanium, in about ten more years. I got this from Winchester Tech Support, before they left New Haven.

For me anyhow, getting a workable Lott class boomer into a M-98 Action, CRF rifle, is a worthy goal, in itself. Any CRF action with a 458 Win. Mag., and three position safety, is primo, in these times. So, can a longer action be tuned to feed the 458 Winnie more slickly than it can feed the Lott?

Nothing at all wrong with the 458 win mag. Nothing wrong with the lott either. I have owned multiples in both. Both will get the job done, the lott will do it with a little more velocity if that's your thing. Anyone who talks down on the winny in this day and age has no experience with one.

+1

You'll probably never NEED a gun. In fact I hope you never do. BUT IF you do, you will probably need it worse than anything you've ever needed before in your life...

458 is a great cartridge! Lots of PHs bet their future on one and that should tell anyone it's a solid performer. It's about all the
reaction I want for the action. I do not get a thrill out of being kicked by a rifle. But at times that's the lesser of two evils!

Why does a man who is 50 pounds overweight complain about a 10 pound rifle being too heavy?

Yukon Phil, have you got any leads on where I may find one of these CRF Mausers in left hand? I look from time to time, but so far, no luck.

Brownell's has some 450gn Barnes TSX's.
I snavelled the last box of 35o's and some 450's which my .458 likes very much.
