I am considering a Duralyt in 2-8x42 for a 260rem as it basically represents about as much coin as I want to spend on glass. My questions are:
-is it that much better than a conquest?
-is there another brand/model I should be considering in that price range($850 - $1k)- someone recommended a Swaro Z3 on another forum....thoughts on this recommendation?

I'm a long time leupold user and love the VX3s...but am interested in making a step up. What do you think?
thnx

30mm instead of a 1", but the VX-6 is pretty nice and in your price range.

IMHO, the VX-6 is a lot of glass for the buck. You need to look at them before pulling the trigger on anything you mentioned.

I have a Duralyt in the 1.2-5x36 that I love. I would consider it a step up from the Conquest. Nice glass, sound adjustments, and I'm partial to their #4 reticle.

Another Zeiss product you might want to consider is their new HD5 line. It has the Lotutec coating and some of the models come with the locking target turret as an option. Only downside (to me) is that their smallest offering in the line is a 2-10x42 ($800). Hopefully, something smaller is introduced at some point.

Interesting. If I recall the V6s are hefty scopes, but I'll have to look at them more closely. I tend to focus in on the VX3s and have not paid a lot of attention to the V6s...

Zeiss has a new Terra 2-7X33 scope.I think it's too new to get reviews yet. It's reported to be in the $400 price range and made in Japan.Should have glass comparable to Conquest series. It was my understand that the Duralyt also had glass comparable to Conquest but at the higher price because of German assembly.

A 2-7 Kahles if you can find a used one.I recently bought one for $450.Also an older Zeiss Diavari 3-9X36 would be great glass in a compact, light weight package.

Personally I think the Leupold VX3 2.5-8 is hard to beat when you consider all aspects.

The VX-3 2.5-8 is indeed a good one, compact, light weight and sleek. And they can be fitted with the CDS.

I had a Conquest and have a Duralyt. Duralyt has better glass IMO.

The last Conquest I bought was a 3-9x40 and it cost around $375 or so, IIRC. You could get one all day long for $399.

Is the Duralyt twice as good?

Yep, this is the question I'd like to have answered as well

DF, you know that the glass quality does not go up in same relation to price. If it did, we wouldn't have $3,000 scopes...

IMO the Duralyt has better glass. In the price range Doug sold them last year, I think they are an outstanding bargain.

R_H_Clark...is the Terra line replacing the Conquest line?

Oh...and finding a kahles 2-7 is like finding a unicorn. I have been quietly in search of one of those for a long time & never seem to find anything

Does anyone know...is the swaro Z3 the same as the AV or does it have some advancement over the AV?

It does look like the new Terra is replacing the Conquest line.

Not sure on the Swaro models.I am a fan of their glass and customer service but I have heard of several of the less expensive Swaro models loosing zero.Likely hear the same of any brand though if you research enough, and I sometimes do way too much online reading.

I am hearing a lot of good things about the new Leupold VX2 line, not to be confused with the VXII.If light weight and compactness were a major consideration the VX2 2-7 would be very tempting.

a comparison of the VX-6 with the Duralyt would be interesting, particularly the illuminated reticule models. I continue to consider both but have not spent the coin yet.

I agree. The V6s have really caught my eye. In this instance, I want a 36mm effective lens though and the V6s are all bigger than that.

I did just that and went with the Duralyt because Doug had a great deal on a demo. All things being equal and knowing what I know now, the VX6 is the way to go. Trimmer, lighter scope and optically equal to the Duralyt and at a cheaper price.

R H Clark...do you mean a Diavari made in W Germany or the USA made Diavari? I think they are both designated Diavari-C...

Which of these is supposed to have better glass?

We have a handful of swaro Z3's and have been very happy with them, no problems at all.

I got a Swarovski 3-9 for my favorite custom. They are well know and all...........

The optics and crosshairs of the scope don't impress me so far.

The crosshairs fade some in bright light from behind the ocular lens.

The scope cost me about $790 or so. A Kahles may not look as cool or have that "Swaro" name but I prefer it for a scope.
